MMM IV

Alcoholocaust shows at the Elbo Room are always hit-or-miss, but that doesn’t stop me from going to them whenever I can. Mondays at the Elbo Room are also $1 PBR night. Local metal + $1 PBR = good.

Orb of Confusion, Lozen, DickDusters
@ Elbo Room, $5

Orb Of Confusion

Orb of Confusion opened up the extremely uncrowded upstairs stage. Being a Floating Goat fan, I wanted to check out Chris’ other gig with Laurie from Three Weeks Clean. It was metal (wouldn’t have expected anything less).

Lozen

Lozen come from Tacoma, WA and seem to be named after the Apache warrior Lozen (but I could be wrong about that). Extremely precise drumming, sludgy guitar (and bass), dynamic vocals. They rocked. There was some small part of me that was left wanting… like they could have pushed it just a bit harder. No matter, I’d see them again.

DickDusters

The DickDusters were fucking awful. There was almost nothing redeeming about this band whatsoever. That being said, they were probably having more fun than anyone else in the entire bar. DickDusters are probably as close as San Francisco has gotten to real punk rock since the 80s.

Orb of Confusion
Rating: ★★★★☆☆
Straight up Hessian metal. Vocals weren’t my style.

Lozen
Rating: ★★★★★½☆
Always great to see 2 people make THAT much noise. Extra sludgy.

DickDusters
Rating: ★★★★★★★★★
Drunk, belligerent, sloppy, bad equipment. Did I mention $1 PBR?
